MoOD 2013 was successfully held wit the participation of 200 exhibitors of which 66 have come from Turkey. Let by UTIB (Uludag Textile Exporters’ Association), Turkish exhibitors showcased a wide range of product portfolio especially at the smart and value added fabrics segment.
According to the organizers of the fair, MoOD has been a real success when the economic situation of Europe is concerned. Patrick Geysels, General Manager of MoOD was very optimistic about the future of the sector and the show. He outlined:
“Change” is the thread running throughout the textiles industry.
The economic crisis caused a fundamental re-ordering of the textile landscape in Europe, with substantial scale reduction resulting. But for the first time, we are hearing positive reports. Economists are reporting the official end of the recession in the European economy. The first signs of recovery are now even subtly visible. It is mainly those companies who invested in innovation and craftsmanship who now have an edge. The products they produce often combine a new type of craftsmanship with advanced technology and innovative materials. Textiles also go increasingly often through a second creative phase in the finishing.
The ‘après’ as these post-treatments are often called in industrial jargon, give the product a distinctive power that goes much further than a soft touché or a ‘wash and dye’. So it is evident that the skills of the textile pro have expanded tremendously. If not to say revised, even when it comes to company profiling and communication. Not only are these hard times, they are exciting times and MoOD is aware of the degree of difficulty, but convinced of the possibilities that rapid change brings with it.
MoOD 2013 in numbers
With 200 exhibitors from over 25 countries, MoOD is the largest international trade fair for upholstery fabrics, window coverings and wall coverings. MoOD also takes a unique place in Europe because it only allows producers who offer their own collections. Upholstery remains the dominant product with 95%. Window coverings are next with 66%. Of the exhibitors, 15% offer wall coverings, but it can be said that these collections are of a very high level. For every specialisation, MoOD offers the best, highest quality solution. Also when it comes to textile design, because MoOD also includes MoOD Yarns and Indigo, where over 100 exhibitors offer creative textile design and surface design.MoOD is the pre-eminent contract specialist Sixty-six companies at MoOD can be regarded as contract specialists. That is roughly 40 % of the complete range. They achieve more than a fifth of their sales in the contract market.
And that is not a luxury but a necessity. Innovations in textiles are making their mark more and more on the contract world. Because they are virtually invisible in the product, this market requires an environment of knowledge and trust. That is exactly what MoOD hopes to be for the visitor.
MoOD is expanding projects with leading partners The XChange Platform in Hall 7 combines three projects of MoOD: the innovation platform, the trend forum and the Blue Drops. Here both the exhibitors and partners of MoOD show off their contributions. No less than 37 exhibitors and 5 partner companies have worked this year on the largest, most cutting-edge innovation platform in the sector. The partner companies present their own selection. This concerns MateriO Belgium, Global Color Research™ Mix Publications, CELC Masters of Linen, Trendease International and Parcours Textile “Design September”. The ironclad platform is supported by a seminar programme, offering space for greater depth. At the XChange platform, you can also exchange ideas with the two guides who will be at your disposal all day.
The trendforum is also at the XChange platform. Here the colour perception of the theme eMOTION is central. The colours are brought to life by RUBIA Natural Colors. This is a premiere of global proportions, because what you will see here is the first large-scale application with natural pigments. RUBIA had the cooperation of the Royal Johan van den Acker Textile Factory.
One theme, FOILS, illustrates the rising trend by means of a cloth coated with metal specially developed by FINIPUR (BE) and EURODYE (BE). It concerns here a special finishing.
The Blue Drop selection can be admired at the Blue Drop sample banks, where the Award Winners have a place of honour. And with Hewlett Packard, MoOD is taking a digital tour. Hewlett Packard would like to show you what is possible today when it comes to digital wall coverings.
Emotion MoOD Media Bar, enjoy the fabrics Belgium has to offer in a cosy atmosphere In the MoOD Media Bar, in hall 11, Belgian exhibitors show their work.
The latest developments can be experienced here in real life. No fewer than 31 hassocks were upholstered with as many fabrics from exclusively Belgian exhibitors. And it will get even more Belgian because at the end of every day of the trade show, between 5 and 6 p.m., you can taste typical Brussels beers in the MoOD Media Bar. They are offered to you free of charge by ‘Moeder Lambic’. We would also like to mention the cooperation with Brussels Design September and with VISITBRUSSELS, who you can turn to if you want to discover the hotspots of Brussels.
‘Moving to a Greater Future’ in 2014 Also at MoOD a change is at hand. For from 2014 on MoOD will be held in Hall 5, the PATIO and Hall 8. The reason for this move is simple: hall 11 will no longer be available starting 2014. MoOD took this problem as an opportunity to move to the prestigious hall 5, the PATIO and adjacent hall 8. Whereas hall 8 will provide the connection to the parking, the PATIO will be the connection to hall 5. The main entrance via the lovely hall 5 will provide for a very unique, new atmosphere at MoOD. The hall is a perfect example of Art Deco in Brussels and at the 1935 world expo was the symbol of progress. ‘Le Grand Palais’ as hall 5 is sometimes called, served as the reception hall for visitors who arrived at the expo via rail.
Hall 5 is by far the largest hall of the site. Together with the PATIO and hall 8, MoOD will offer a net surface area that is identical to the surface that MoOD currently occupies. MoOD is very proud of this small but striking change, with which we face the challenge of the coming years.
