The castle is the work of Germain Boffrand, the first architect of the Duke Leopold (designer of Les Archives Nationales de Paris and the layout of the Place de la Concorde which can still be admired today)
The Princess Minnie de Beauvau Craon is hosting an exhibition of the enchanting and original creations of the artist Joy de Rohan Chabot, in the exceptional setting of the Château d’Haroué near Nancy, in Lorraine.
It is in this famous countryside palace that Joy de Rohan Chabot wanted to add another dimension to her art and express her talent with this first contemporary exterior and interior installation: l’Envolée.
120 steel butterflies (plain and patterned), made totally by hand, in many different sizes and varying shades of blue (Cerulean, Mayan…) have taken over the facade of the Château.
They are delicately placed on huge piles of wood, on the trees in the middle of the courtyard, in the park, but also on the walls of the beautiful salons. With this installation, Joy de Rohan Chabot wanted to pay tribute to the butterfly, a symbol of our childhood summers and of the anxiety that we may experience in the event of its disappearance. The exhibition continues inside the Château where there will be thirty pieces made of painted glass, bronze, iron and other materials all inspired by nature (candlesticks, chairs, lamps, mirrors, screens, tables, stools, vases…) in the salons.
Le Château d’Haroué & its artistic activity…
The Chateau d’Haroué was built in 1720 and was completed in 1732, a period during which the Realm of Lorraine was politically independent from France. Since its completion the castle has always remained in the family. The last Prince de Beauvau Craon died in 1982 at the age of 61.
The castle is the work of Germain Boffrand, the first architect of the Duke Leopold (designer of Les Archives Nationales de Paris and the layout of the Place de la Concorde which can still be admired today).
In 1982, following the untimely death of her father, the Prince Marc de Beauvau Craon, the Princess Minnie de Beauvau Craon, decided to manage the future of the family castle. Her ambition has always been to open the house to the public and she immediately set about organizing temporary art exhibitions, which correspond with the atmosphere and the beautiful surroundings of Haroué:
1998: Baccarat.
2010: Hubert de Givenchy and Philippe Venet conceived a stunning and unique exhibition entitled: “Balenciaga, Givenchy, Venet” with 42 gowns and dresses from these three outstanding designers.
2012: Wedding dresses – Hubert de Givenchy and Philippe Venet presented an exhibition of some of the world’s most famous dresses.
Since 2007, Minnie de Beauveau Craon hosts annual opera concerts in the park of the Château, during the Open Air Opera Festival.
The Château has hosted some exquisite programming including: Tales Hoffman, The Magic Flute, Aida, Carmen, Madame Butterfly.
This summer it will present the opera Don Giovanni directed by Patrick Poivre d’Arvor and Manon Savary, followed by a concert of Laurent Voulzy.
