White Plains – Expansion in four directions, aligned with market growth, is the theme as SURTEX® 2013 will offer more exhibition space, a specialized section for textile design studios, additional trend and business resources, plus two new collocated shows.
Known as the leading trade show for selling and licensing surface designs, SURTEX annually attracts more than 300 exhibitors and 6,000 attendees to its three-day run at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, to be held for the 27th year on May 19-21, 2013 in New York City.
Additional Aisles, New Atelier, More Trends and ReSources
To meet the growth of the art and design marketplace, SURTEX has expanded its layout and shifted to the front and center of Javits Hail 3A — with an added licensing aisle, plus an extra selling aisle for exhibitors serving sectors ranging from apparel and decorative fabrics, linens, tabletop, wall coverings and floor coverings, to giftware, stationery, greeting cards, gift wrap and other paper products, toys, ceramics, packaging and publishing .
In addition, SURTEX will launch Atelier, a new section dedicated to design studios and designers who primarily seli their art and designs outright. This area will be characterized by an intimate, yet more open floor plan in a distinct and private environment. Atelier exhibitors represent the most talented and sought-after textile design studios from around the world, offering the most trend-forward prints, patterns, repeats and documents for product development needs across a multitude of categories. Approximately 75 select studios from Great Britain, Europe, North America and Japan will unveil their collections at SURTEX.
Both the Trend Theatre and the ReSource Hub will be enlarged to meet the increased demand for color, design and business trend information, as well as resource materials, software and other business essentials. Ongoing Trend Theatre sessions, presented by top worldwide forecasting companies, are open to all attendees and exhibitors at no charge, conveniently located on the show floor and adjacent to the Atelier.
“The growth in the market, as well as feedback from our constituents has prompted these additions and upgrades to SURTEX,” said Penny Sikalis, Vice President of GLM and Manager of the SURTEX show. “The launch of the design-forward Atelier is especially exciting, because it re-emphasizes the roots SURTEX has in the textiles and wall coverings sectors, as these industries rebound and regain design importance.
Two New Collocated Shows
The recently announced Creative & Lifestyle Arts show will be positioned directly between the National Stationery Show® and SURTEX, with a promenade between them providing more visibility and clearer entrance points to SURTEX from the south.
GLM Shows is also launching SPACE: Strategy, Product, Architecture for Consumer Environments™, which will be located in Javits North, and linked to the ICFF® on level 1.
“These two new collocated shows will add to the overall business opportunities in the marketplace for attendees and exhibitors. All reports from designers, licensing agents, manufacturers and retailers indicate we have an expanded and energized market; that growth and excitement will boost both attendee and exhibitor interest in SURTEX,” added Sikalis.
