“Last year we sold more than 1 billion dollars worth of textile goods in Russia. Activities in Sochi 2014 will be more profitable for textile industry,” says Ibrahim Burkay, president of Uludag Textile Exporters’ Association, UTIB.
UTIB, a major organization in the Turkish textile industry, attracts attention with its export promotion efforts.
By participating in almost every event on textiles, the association tries to further its contributions in the growing volume of exports from Bursa that increased 16.8% when compared to last year’s figures and reached to 112.5 millon. Heimtextile Moscow fair that was closed recently was the latest show of the union that proved the importance of Russian market of 142 million consumers.
In his assessments on Moscow fair and exports data, Ibrahim Burkay appreciated the efforts of the union that has positive effects on exports. He said, “Being the third biggest textile exporter in the world Turkish textile industry has made a great show in Moscow fair. Last year textile exporters went beyond the 1 billion dollar level in Russian market among other Turkish exporters. Increasing number of new buildings, shopping centers, social constructions, hotels, offices, etc. signal that our textile products will be demanded more next year. We rank at the second place after Germany in home textile market in Russia. We are the only country that can be competitive against Chinese in Russian market. Sochi will host 2014 winter Olympics and about 12 billion dollars will be invested for the event. So, we expect greater shares and sales in this market.”
UTIB organizes the participation of 57 companies in the fair and 300 companies ar in textile business of 1,200 Turkish companies that invested in Russian market.
